Congratulations to Mary Spohn, age 13. Mary was the champion in the Under
17 Junior Olympic Qualifier. She also qualified in the U20 event.
Congratulations to Laurence Toal the champion at the Beverly hills event
this weekend.
Mary Spohn is now ranked 24th in the US under 14 girls, as a result of
her top 32 finish in Dallas.
Long Beach
Alex Lavin earned his national D rating today. He was finalist in long
beach open.
Daniel Lee also fenced well - finished 3rd.
Foil Open
Daniel earned his C rating today - one touch away from his B vs. an A
fencer with over 20 years of experience.
Mary finished 3rd, in a close bout with a Swedish National Fencer.
Congratulations to Daniel Lee!
Daniel's first National Event - He finished in the Final 8, and earned
his D rating.
Congrats to Laurence Toal
- She finished 2nd in the under 17 and under 20 events!!
- She also finished tied for 1st for the cumulative points in the Under
17 event for the Pacific Coast Section.
- She finished 2nd in the foil open over the weekend - missing the gold
and her E rating by 1 touch.
- Excellent season for Laurence.
SoCal Youth Challenge Champions
We won the overall challenges in 3 of the 6 events this year. Overall
is based on total points for all events.
Christian Reyes- silver in this event, and champion in the boys U12
overall. Rocker, in boys U14, overall champion and 3rd in event, and Laurence
in the U14 girls - overall champion, lost to teammate, Rocker, to enter
top 3.
Christopher Duran finished 3rd in his 2nd challenge.
Nausher fenced pretty well, and showed improvements from his 1st event
also.
A very solid finish for all!!!

Students qualify for under 19 team at summer nationals.

Max and Byron tie for 3rd at division 2 qualifier.
Daniel Lee, had a personal best, finishing in the top 8, and qualified
for div 2 and 3.
Max and Byron tied for 3rd, both qualifying for the Div 2 event.
Mary also qualified for div 2 and 3 finishing 3rd. Mary also earned her"
D" rating.
The U19 team qualified for the men. Max, Byron, Rocker, and Alex, fenced
very well, finishing fourth and qualifying also. They were within 10 touches
of fencing for the gold vs. a much more experienced team.
Youth & Jr. Pacific Coast Championships
Max - 3rd in U17 Boys (undefeated until bout to enter gold medal)
Mary Spohn - finished 5th in U14 girls, & also earned National Points
Taylor (30th) - earned National Points, becoming Nationally Ranked
Austin Rocker (21st, in 1st full year of competition) earned National
Points in the Under 14 event, becoming National Ranked (Things have really
come together for Rocker recently).
Ashley finished 12th in U12 girls, earning National points in her 1st
year of competition. An amazing 1st year for her so far!! She has exceeded
my typical goals for some 2nd year students in year 1.
Christian finished in the top 32 in the U12.
PCCs Update
Max Griffin had best result in Under 16 - undefeated until bout to get
into gold. Finished 3rd.
National Division 3 event in Atlanta
Austin Rocker finished 9th.
Austin re-earned his E at this competition.
